Social Responsibility
Throughout 2007, MTS supported and invested in a number of projects and initiatives as part of its social responsibility program. The Company focused its efforts primarily in the areas of cultural development, education and charity work. MTS’ social responsibility program focuses on three areas:
1) The individual employee level
- Education: through the Corporate University to help foster employees’ professional development
- Social: through provision of medical insurance, competitive salaries adjusted for inflation and social contributions paid to the state pension fund
2) The governmental level
- MTS and its subsidiaries represent some of the largest contributors to the national economies in their countries of operations through corporate tax contributions
- National technological development through investments into telecom and data network development
- Regional activities (intra-country) aimed at promoting relations with local governments
- Creation of additional workplaces
3) The societal level
- Collaboration with leading universities
- Support of sports organizations such as the Olympic committee in Russia and the national team in Ukraine
- Regional activities (intra-country) supporting charitable causes for the elderly, youth, handicapped, etc.
MTS actively encourages and promotes individual employee charitable and volunteer activities across all markets where the Company operates.
